A-29 Super Tucano

The US Air Force has once again selected the A-29 Super Tucano turboprop single engine aircraft from Embraer for its Light Air Support program. The A-29 Super Tucano had been selected earlier on in a tender for a $427 million contract for 20 Light Air Support aircraft in which Hawker Beechcraft had offered the AT-6B single-engine turboprop. Having lost the contract, Hawker had filed a case in court and had obtained an order in its favour for the USAF to redo the exercise for selection of the aircraft. Consequently, the tender was floated for the second time and once again, the US Air Force has selected the Tucano which will be built in Jacksonville. Serving the Light Air Support program, the A-29 Super Tucano aircraft will be used for pilot training, aerial reconnaissance and light air support operations. This aircraft, of which more than 170 have been delivered, serves in nine air forces worldwide.
