Buzz, a tabby cat with a complicated past, was discovered living in dire conditions at Drax Power Station, near Selby, Yorkshire. Despite his frailty and advanced age, his rescue has since captured the attention of animal lovers across the UK.
An Alarming Discovery at Drax Power Station
According to the BBC, Buzz’s condition was severe when the RSPCA received a call about him earlier this year. The elderly cat had been surviving on his own within the sprawling industrial site, where workers had likely provided him with some form of sustenance. When rescuers arrived, they found Buzz emaciated, with matted fur, and suffering from partial blindness and deafness. After receiving critical care, Buzz was placed in a permanent foster home in Lincolnshire, with a family well-versed in caring for senior cats. The family, having cared for other frail animals in the past, created a comforting environment for Buzz to recuperate. “He has settled in very well,” his new owner shared. “He has explored everywhere and even managed to navigate the stairs. He’s got a wonderful appetite and loves attention, especially chin rubs.”
In his new home, Buzz has taken to basking in the sunlight in the conservatory, often seen lounging in a spot that helps ease his old bones. Despite his health issues, Buzz’s adaptation to the family’s home has been nothing short of remarkable. The RSPCA’s investigation into Buzz’s history revealed more about his previous life. Registered in 2005 at another rescue center, Buzz had been adopted and rehomed a decade ago. However, the details on his microchip were never updated, and it’s likely that he had lived at the power station for years, possibly even being fed by workers.
