Buoyed by the IAF’s response to its C-130J military aircraft, global aerospace major Lockheed Martin is considering the possibility of selling the transport planes to other wings of the Indian Armed Forces as well. After the ahead-of-schedule-delivery of six C-130J aircraft last year, the IAF is in the process of procuring another six aircraft to make up full squadron strength. The C-130J aircraft is well suited to various military as also Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief operations. It is a versatile platform and has a proven record for military as also non-military missions. Driven by its growing interest in the Indian market, Lockheed Martin recently entered into a Joint Venture (JV) with the Tata Group for the manufacture of parts of the C-130J aircraft at a newly built facility in Hyderabad. In view of its long term interest in the Indian market, the company felt the time was right for it to go for a JV. Meanwhile, the US the company has submitted its final proposal to the US Navy to design, build, integrate and test the new Air and Missile Defence Radar (AMDR) for the future DDG-51 Flight III class destroyer.
