Goa Shipyard Ltd commenced the physical construction of the 02 Pollution Control Vessel Project for the Coast Guard, with the ceremonial Plate Cutting function.
IG S Paramesh, PTM, TM Commander Coast Guard Region (W) presided over the ceremony in the presence of CMD GSL Cmde B B Nagpal, IN (Retd) and other senior dignitaries from the GSL and Indian Coast Guard.
Opening up an entirely new line of business, GSL had bagged this order for construction of two Vessels for the Indian Coast Guard through competitive bidding. GSL signed the contract with Ministry of Defence on 22 Jun 2021. This is a critical import substitution project for the Indian Defence Shipbuilding Industry and a major boost to the ‘Make in India’ and Atma Nirbhar Bharat vision of the country. Considering the focused impetus on a clean and pollution free marine environment, these vessels have been designed and equipped with State of the art Pollution Response and Control equipment.
Speaking on the occasion, Cmde B B Nagpal, NM, Chairman & Managing Director, GSL said “This prestigious contract, was bagged by GSL through competitive bidding, which was participated both by public, as well as, private shipyards. With the signing of this contract, GSL will commence a new product line related to vessels designed for the exclusive role of pollution control and response. The project will provide a significant boost to the indigenous shipbuilding sector in Goa and across the nation. In keeping with Goa Shipyard’s excellent track record of delivering ships on-time, all efforts are underway to ensure timely execution of this project as well”.
